The system uses the energy released during deceleration to the operation of the electrical load and thus relieve the internal combustion engine. Mazda refers to a reduction in fuel consumption by up to ten percent. At full charge the capacitor can provide enough energy to power the electrical systems of the car for about a minute current. Mazda plans to use i-ELOOP later this year in production vehicles.
